Celebrating Befriending Week 2025: The Power of Connection in the Cotswolds

Today marks the start of Befriending Week — a chance to recognise the simple but life-changing power of friendship in our communities. Across the Cotswolds, many older or vulnerable residents face days without company. Through our Befriending Service, Cotswold Friends helps bridge that gap — bringing warmth, conversation and connection to those who need it most.

What Befriending Means

Our volunteer befrienders offer companionship to people who may feel isolated or lonely. A regular chat over a cup of tea, a shared hobby, or even a short trip out can lift spirits and build lasting friendships. Visits are flexible — some people enjoy a weekly chat at home, while others prefer monthly catch-ups or phone calls. What matters most is the connection and the reassurance that someone cares.

More Than a Visit

Every befriending match is made with care, pairing volunteers and clients who share interests or experiences. For some, it’s an opportunity to talk about local life or swap stories from years gone by. For others, it’s a gentle way to regain confidence after illness or loss. Our trained volunteers are there to listen, laugh, and bring a sense of community back into people’s lives — reminding us all that friendship can be the best kind of support.

How You Can Get Involved

Befriending isn’t just about helping others — it’s a meaningful experience for volunteers too. Many tell us they’ve gained new friendships, purpose, and perspective through their visits. If you have a little time to spare each week, you could make a real difference to someone’s life.
